Methodology and evidence limits

This reference combines different kinds of evidence without turning them into one reliability score. Every panel should show what it measures, its period and its source. Every editorial section distinguishes supported facts from interpretation and unanswered questions.
Specifications: US market first
The editorial market is the United States and the language is US English. Manufacturer US documents take priority for market-specific ratings and equipment. Global production dates, US model years and registration dates are different references and keep explicit labels. Horsepower figures from different markets or rating standards are not silently substituted.
Road speeds, torque and dimensions use the US figures supplied by the source where available. Engine capacity may also retain its conventional liter or cubic-centimeter designation. An unverified odometer unit is unknown; it is never relabeled as miles merely because the page targets US readers.

Great Britain MOT data
The MOT is a road-safety and environmental inspection. The displayed sample concerns Great Britain, not the United States, and its matching rules and period belong beside the results. It is not a survey of engine or transmission longevity.
For the 2023 result coding used in the local dataset, P records a pass, F a failure and PRS a failure initially rectified at the station. P divided by all included tests is kept separate from P plus PRS divided by all included tests. PRS must not be described as an initial pass. Tests are not automatically unique vehicles: repeat tests and the matching policy affect the denominator.
We do not extrapolate these results into a US repair probability, rank engines by expected lifespan or compare mileage when its source unit is unverified. Consult the panel's provenance for its exact normalization and exclusions. A missing or rejected sample is displayed as No data with the reason.

NHTSA: complaints, campaigns and VIN status
Complaints are submitted reports and may describe a possible safety issue. They are not, by themselves, a representative count of failed vehicles. This project has no fleet-exposure denominator with which to turn them into a failure probability. Repeated reports, reporting behavior, time in service and model scope all affect interpretation.
A recall campaign concerns its defined population. One campaign can cover several models, years or generations, so a total campaign population is not automatically a count for a single hub. Repeated campaign identifiers across pages are not separate global defects. Manufacturer communications are another category and do not automatically represent a safety recall.
For a particular car, check current official guidance and request completion records. A model-year match does not prove VIN applicability. The online service can omit older campaigns or non-safety actions, so manufacturer history may still be needed. No VIN-specific check was carried out for a reader's vehicle in preparing these pages.

Registrations, survivors and production
A registration series measures vehicles within that series' territory, date and status definitions. It is not automatically a count of worldwide survivors or US vehicles in use. Production requires a different source and a consistent definition of market, body, edition and period.
No data: reconciled total-production figures are not part of this editorial release. Conflicting totals are not averaged, and an absent figure is not shown as zero. Any later addition must identify its precise scope and explain how competing claims were resolved.
Problem sections and inspection checklists
A supported problem description identifies the source and preserves its scope. If no accepted primary document was retrieved, the page says No data and explains the missing evidence. That does not prove that the issue does not exist. It means the guide cannot responsibly claim its mechanism, affected population, frequency or required intervention.
The inspection checklists are original editorial prompts for commissioning a qualified assessment. They are not repair instructions or remote diagnoses. Questions about records, warnings or components should not be read as declarations of a universal defect. The condition of an individual car requires access to that car and a suitable inspection.
Comparisons and provisional conclusions
Comparisons begin with observable design differences and a stated requirement: engine configuration, body access or transmission control. They do not claim that a higher output figure makes a car better for everyone. They do not award a reliability winner without comparable evidence.
A conditional conclusion is labeled as an editorial inference. This project has not conducted road tests, mechanical inspections or personal ownership trials for the pages in this release. No first-hand experience is implied.
Review, dates and rights
The visible update date is the editing date, not a fabricated review or road-test date. Initial human editorial review is complete and the content is in local QA. KAZAWEB is the editorial credit, not a substitute for person-level review. Check current official safety guidance before acting; this site does not replace vehicle-specific instructions.

Government-hosted manufacturer documents retain their authorship: their location on NHTSA does not by itself place BMW text in the public domain.
